Rock crystal

Origin
Rock crystal forms deep within the earth in cavities and rock fissures, mostly in granite or gneiss. Over millions of years, its clear crystals grow from mineral-rich solutions that harden during slow cooling. The calmer and undisturbed this process, the clearer and more transparent the crystal becomes. This is how the impressive, often flawless crystal points are formed that make rock crystal so unique.

Composition
Rock crystal belongs to the quartz family. It consists mainly of silicon dioxide – one of the most common building blocks of the Earth's crust. Its clarity is due to the fact that very few foreign substances were incorporated during its growth. This distinguishes it from its "colorful siblings" such as amethyst or citrine, which get their color from trace elements.

History
Since antiquity, rock crystal has fascinated humankind. In Greece, it was considered "eternal ice" that never melts. The Romans used it for amulets and drinking vessels; in the Middle Ages, it found its place in religious reliquaries and precious jewelry. In many cultures, it was seen as an intermediary between humans and gods. It has been mined for centuries, especially in the Alps, and was considered a treasure of the mountains – a symbol of purity and power.

Meaning & Effect (as handed down)
Rock crystal is considered the "master stone" among minerals. It is said to promote clarity and awareness and refresh the mind. It is believed to bestow inner peace and strengthen concentration. According to tradition, it has a harmonizing effect on body, mind, and soul and can amplify energies – including those of other stones. Many traditions see it as a companion that helps to more clearly recognize one's own potential and achieve balance.
